RAFT BUILDING

Can you and your friends build a raft that will float? Let’s find out…

Raft Building

If you were stranded on an island and had a select amount of materials to build a raft that would float, could you? We’re not going to stick you on an island, but we are going to test your raft building abilities in this very popular and challenging group activity! Will you sink or float? It’s time to find out!

Out On The Ocean

The session takes place at Pendine Sands following a short minibus transfer from the centre or alternatively groups can be met at the venue with a wetsuit (if needed) and safety equipment provided. The objective is to construct a basic raft using allocated bits and bobs as well as two sit-on-top kayaks per team. On completion, it is then a race out into water and around the nearest buoy/instructor or designated marker. Will you be the team who can make it out there first? One way to find out…

  • Connector.Connector.

Armed with “bits and bobs” and kayaks, you and your team will have to build the best raft that you can before the other team hits the sea. It’s all about planning and quick work.

  • Connector.Connector.

With your raft built, it’s time to be brave and see if it will stay on top of the water! Dash into the sea, jump on top and hope for the best. If you’ve built it right, you’ll be fine.

Providing it floats, you’re then in a frantic race on the water against the opposing team. This is where your physical strength will really help, but teamwork is also a factor.
